I finally have time to write my school life hacks/tips post!
So Enjoy and I hope this helps! xx
✏️ Hack/Tip 1:
When taking notes use a variety of different colours and highlighters. For example use a yellow highlighter for examples, blue for names/ dates and pink for definitions. It helps you when you are going through your notes looking for something specific. But just remember to keep to your colour scheme otherwise it get’s unorganised and confusing. So when I type up my notes I always do my “E.G.” In yellow as I do when I write out my notes!
👥 Hack/Tip 2:
While studying, find someone to read out your information too so you are acting like the teacher. It will help you remember the information as you can apply it and teach it too someone. So I read out my notes to my dog because no one else really wants to hear it and i’m not sure why but it just helps explaining it to someone or something.
📝 Hack/Tip 3:
Do many practice exams/ tests before your actual test. This will let you know what information you need to look over and what you already know. Whilst doing this also type up all the questions you didn’t get full marks on and after you have finished doing all the practice tests print out all the questions you didn’t get full marks on and re do it!
📖 Hack/Tip 4:
Have a good study routine. For example study for about 20-30 minutes (remember to stay off your phone for about 3 minutes afterwards) then have a good 15 minute break and then go back and do another 20 minutes. This helps you retain the information more easily.
📚 Hack/tip 5:
Make palm cards/ mindmaps/ summary sheets of the information you have learned. It helps summarise the information and helps you retain it! Also remember to make acronyms, acoustics or bizarre stories with some of the information as it’s easier for you to remember it!
👩🏼💻 Hack/Tip 6:
After you’ve written your essay/ notes on your laptop, put it into google translate to make sure you have no spelling errors. This helps as in English grammar obviously plays a big part and you can lose unnecessary marks.
🍫 Hack/Tip 7:
If you’re not motivated to write an essay, read a book or do a practiced exam. Have a reward such as chocolate and tell yourself that after you do a specific amount of work such as 3 chapters, you can have some of the chocolate. I love doing this, I get a bowl of chips and each time I do something such as 4 questions or write 200 words I just have a chip!
📆 Hack/Tip 8:
Make sure you plan out what subjects you are doing to study on a particular day. You do not want to do more than 3 subjects a day as you will get all your information confused.
☕️ Hack/Tip 9:
If you did not get a good night sleep have some coffee to help you stay awake during the day (not recommended to do everyday just when you 100% need it)
📙 Hack/Tip 10:
Study/ do homework in the same place, preferably not a bed as it’s something that is associated with sleep.
I also have some websites/ Apps that can help with school and studying!
👩🏼💻 Website 1
Sleepyti.me- you can plan out when you should go to bed by what time you need to wake up. This makes sure you don’t wake up in the middle of REM sleep which would make you way more tired when you get up!
👩🏼💻 Website 2
Keepmeout.com- it can keep you out of any websites (such as Facebook) while you are at school or studying.
👩🏼💻 Website 3
crashcourse-It’s run by Hank and John green and had many videos on different subjects including physics, psychology, economics history etc..
100% RECOMMEND SUBSCRIBING TO THIS CHANNEL. It is amazing. Just make sure you are paying full attention to it as they talk extremely fast!
👩🏼💻 website 4
Sparknotes- it provides a deep analysis on a book and brief explanations on characters and plots.
Amazing and extremely helpful. If you have forgotten to read a school book during the holiday just go onto sparknotes and it will give you everything about the book.
👩🏼💻 Website 5
Toodledoo- it can help you organise all tasks on the level of priority and into folders. You can also access this on your phone.
Duolingo- Is an app to help learn/ study languages. You play games on the basics, phrases, animals, clothing and plurals. I used this when I did French and it was extremely helpful, playing all the games help you retain the information more easily and help you know what category you need to look at more
Quizlet- An app where you can make flash cards and quiz yourself on them. You can also play a variety of games. I use this so much, as well as normal flash cards. It’s helpful to have it even though I have normal flash cards just incase I’ve forgotten to bring them to school with me or forgotten to take them home! The games also while stressful, help you retain information.
Description- You can write down your class timetables and keep track of special events during the week.
Mindmaple- you can create mindmaps and include diagrams and photos.
(It is $4.99 but extremely helpful when you get to year 12)
If you don’t want to pay this much, on a MacBook you can just search up mind map and you can get a free app that you can make a mindmap on
Be focused- An all that helps you be more stress free. It can manage your tasks, track your theorist throughout the day and can act as a timer while you study.
Extremely helpful during exam time!
I hope this was helpful for you guys!
